With speculation of a federal election coming soon, it is timely to remind all eligible Territorians to register to vote.
We currently have an estimated 35,000 Territorians missing from our electoral roll, 70% of them aged between 18 and 39.
We know many just ‘haven’t got around’ to enrolling at their current address. What they may not realise is that once an election is called, the rolls close quickly and they could miss out.
It is compulsory to enrol to vote for Australian citizens aged 18 and over and you could be fined for not doing so. However it is very easy to enroll. All you have to do is:
• visit our website at www.aec.gov.au where you’ll find enrollment forms and instructions;
• ring us on 13 23 26;
• visit our offices on the 7th Floor of the TCG Centre, 80 Mitchell Street Darwin or My Vote Central at Suite 3, Yeperenye Centre, Gregory Terrace, Alice Springs;
• watch out for our staff in purple shirts searching for lost voters in shopping centres, airports and other public places; or
• collect a form for an Australia Post outlet or Medicare, Centrelink or Australian Tax Office.
Please make every vote count and register today.
By the way, we are also looking for casual workers to register their interest to work during an election campaign and at polling stations.
